Itinerary

Using our overland truck our Western Parks 5 day adventure camping safari departs on the 3 rd Friday of every month.   It encompasses the outstanding Parks of Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo, offering many a sensational highlight - have your camera ready.

Day 1 - Friday
Our 5 day camping safari starts in Jinja, on the edge of the Nile.   We drive through the tropical forest of Mabira, emerging on the east side of Kampala city, making a brief stop at Garden City Shopping Mall to collect anyone joining us before heading out west towards Fort Portal.   A filling local lunch is taken en-route as we continue our drive, winding through tea and banana plantations.   At Fort Portal we take the Kasese road that sweeps past the Rwenzori Mountains then through Queen Elizabeth National Park. We overnight at Nature Lodge, right next to the Kazinga Channel, having set up camp we enjoy a delicious dinner with the sound of the hippos close by.
Camping at Nature Lodge
Meals included: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2 - Saturday
It's an early start and after a light breakfast you game drive through the park for an optional guided chimp trek into Kyambura Gorge in search of man's closest relative. The sounds of the chimps carry through the forest very clearly, so approaching these creatures in their natural habitat is a fantastic wildlife viewing experience.   After lunch, taken on the beautiful Mweya Peninsular we take the leisurely boat launch on the Kazinga Channel where hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffalo will be in great abundance either at the waters edge, or alongside your boat.   We return to camp on the peninsular in time for a well deserved sundowner and dinner.

Optional Chimp Trek at Kyambura Gorge

Day 3 - Sunday
After breakfast we head off on a morning game drive where you can hope to spot all of the game which Africa is famous for - elephants, lion, leopard, buffalo and many different species of antelope and birdlife.   Our destination is the Ishasha region of the park, famous for its tree climbing lions.   We spend the afternoon searching the vast fig trees for these incredible cats and game driving within this wild area of the park.   We overnight in Ishasha, assembling camp in the open savannah - the perfect place to sit around the campfire before spending the night under a million stars.
Bush Camping at Ishasha

Day 4 - Monday
An early start we pack up camp and game drive out of the park, stopping en-route for breakfast.   We will drive through twisted and winding roads, and lake dotted countryside, before emerging on to the lower thorn and savannah scrub lands of Lake Mburo National Park.   Zebra, buffalo, Ugandan Kob and plenty of other species abound in this beautiful park and it's here that you can do the optional horse-riding or quad-biking.   We camp this evening next to the lake, watching out for the male hippo affectionately known as Jennifer...!?!

Optional Quad Biking and Horse Riding at Lake Mburo

Day 5 - Tuesday
Fancy a walk through Africa's wild side? This morning you get taken on a walking safari, complete with a ranger, getting close to many of the beautiful and free roaming animals of the national park.   We later stop en-route for lunch at the Equator, giving you a chance to watch the local water demonstration of the different gravitational pulls!   We will arrive late afternoon into Kampala and by early evening into Jinja.   This is the end of your Ku Tunza Safari, thank you for travelling with us.
